হজর বছর ধর উপনয়স: A Captivating Social Novel by Johir Rayhan
হজর বছর ধর উপনয়স (Hojor Bochor Dhor Uponyas) is a timeless social novel written by the renowned Bangladeshi novelist and filmmaker Johir Rayhan. The novel, which was published in 1964, earned him the prestigious Adamjee Literary Award.
The story revolves around the life of Mokbul, the head of the Shikdar household, and his four wives - Ameena, Fatema, Tony, and Montu. The novel also introduces other significant characters such as Ambia, Karim's sister and Montu's wife, Fakir's mother, Abul, Halima, and Gono Molla.
In 2005, Johir Rayhan's first wife, Kohinur Aktar Suchanda, adapted the novel into a film with the same title. The film starred Riaz and Shashi in the lead roles of Montu and Tony. Shahnoor, Suchanda, and ATM Shamsuzzaman portrayed various other characters. The film received critical acclaim and won six National Film Awards in different categories. It also received three Meril-Prothom Alo Awards in three categories.
